there and back again…

or how i tricked myself into doing something i wanted to do, but really couldn’t.

so here’s how it went down. this is the final installment of my wild weekend in nyc. sunday morning i’m exhausted becuase i had to stay up late to make sure that my school work got done. and done it got (i hear it looks gorgeous). so i miss the train going to church with my brother to grab some extra shut-eye. awesome in theory, disasterous in actual.

i get up with a good deal of time to get ready and get the train. i pack up my things, shower, get gussied up for church, and head out. when i arrive at the station the gates are all locked down. the L train stops working on the weekend. booooo. so an old guy who was watching me be extremely confused helped me to the station i needed to get to. i was extremely grateful.

MTA is slow as molasses. i’ll prolly say that multiple times this post. i ended up waiting another 15-20 min for the next train to manhatten. i transferred onto the C train to 50th st. when i got off and above ground, i had no clue where i was. church was not in the middle of broadway last i remember. so i panicked and totally blanked. the only thing i could think to do was walk. so i walked uptown, way too far uptown. and decided i was totally in err about halfway up. i went back underground to the C train and rode it back to 50th st. back at 50th st i decided to just wander to the east. i started to recognize some of the restaurants and finally found the church. i missed all the worship time. boooo.

church was refreshing. after church we went out to eat at a neat little mexican spot called lupe’s. charles and jasmine joined the fam unit while clint rushed to and from a sound check for his rock show tonight. we had a very enjoyable lunch and afterwards, we parted with the family and said our goodbyes. they left in the highlander and clint, charles, jasmine and i went to our apartments.

i needed to rest before i left for bloomsburg, so clint and i watched some really insane anime called kage no ma mamura (or something like that). afterwards i started to gather my belongings to get off to bloom when i realized i couldn’t find my key. my stomach sank to my toes when i realized i had stuffed my key into my china bag, which i had left in the highlander. by the time i called mom to tell her they were somewhere in northern new jersey. the only way i could get my bag back to get to bloomsburg was to hurry and take the next possible njt train to princeton junction where my parents would meet me and i would get my bag.

ok, that means running back to lorimer street because of L train construction then grabbing the njt at penn station. getting on the train was insane because they rarely have enough seats in ny for everyone. but luckily i found a seat ready to get my car key back. then i hear the man on the loud speaker telling me that there was mechanical problems with the train. thirty minutes later we’re still in penn station when the man tells me that we have to switch trains. running to switch trains left all those who didn’t speak english in a frenzy of confusion. after helping one of those figure out where she was going, i found another seat and prepped to finally make it to penn station.

the train made it to penn station about thirty minutes late. i met my parents and got my car key back. looking at the train schedule i realized that if the train had have been on time, i could have gotten right on a train back to ny. but no, i had to wait in the freezing cold for another hour. the train came and took me back to penn station. in penn station i grabbed a quick bite to eat. i called jasmine and she gave me directions to a show. yes, a show.

back on the subway on the ACE (or 123, i can’t remember) to 4th st where i get on the D to george st. i was supposed to go north on chrystie or something like that to stanton, ended up on rivington and ran around for another 15 minutes while my brother took the stage. i finally got to the arlene grocery to see gee whiz play the last 3 or 4 songs of their set. they were ok. they weren’t great. but it was fun to see my little brother play his first rock show in nyc. it was certainly a night for the history books.

after the show jasmine, charles, kirsten, clint and i wanted to go out. we trudged a handful of blocks to get to a place called decibel. it was this really freakin cool sake bar in east village. when we got there, they were getting ready to shut down but still seated us. so basically we each drank a bear and three bottles of sake between us. needless to say we were in pretty interesting shape on our exit. nevertheless we trekked back to brooklyn and ended the night watching the big labowski. we chillin now and i’m getting ready to go back to bloomsburg. but i wanted to put this down so everyone know how things work for the good.

see you all later.

xoxo
